10 day old baby Alice traveled all the way from Norfolk with her lovely parents and adorable 2 year old big brother for her newborn session. I was thrilled when they booked their Boston newborn session with me since they were a referral from one of my clients that I just adore. I pretty much knew they were going to be a sweet family and boy, was I right!

I always try my best to capture a sweet newborn smile for the parents. There are subtle signs that babies give when they are in a deep enough sleep to flash these quick but oh so adorable smiles. Here’s one from Alice’s session! Success!

I captured a bunch of images of Alice wide awake but my goal is to also get photos of the baby all curled up and it’s ideal if they are asleep for these shots. My studio is nice and toasty, ready to make anyone who enters quite sleepy. For newborn sessions, I keep my studio at 82 degrees to help keep new babies comfortable. Newborns can get cold easily, especially when undressed, so the 82 degrees feels wonderful to them! If I’m not sweating while I’m photographing their session, then it’s not warm enough for the baby!
